Buy Back Scheme called for Hawkesbury Residents
Both Susan Templeman MP and Hawkesbury City Mayor Sarah McMahon, have called for the recent ‘voluntary buy-back’ scheme announced for Northern Rivers to be extended to residents of Hawkesbury.
“Hundreds of property owners in Hawkesbury have been affected just as badly as residents in and around Lismore. Where is their buy back Scheme offer? Where are their grants? Many parts of Hawkesbury fit the description of ‘most at risk from future disasters, which is why we simply must not be forgotten. For some residents in our very low lying areas, flooding is and always will be an issue. These residents should be given the same opportunities as those in the Northern Rivers to opt-in to a buyback scheme with the government or to build their homes back with flood resilience in mind.” said Mayor McMahon.
The Northern Rivers scheme is supported by both State and Federal Governments. Susan Templeman MP has today written to Premier Perrottet asking why the NSW Government isn’t already planning a similar scheme for Hawkesbury residents. She indicates that the Federal Government is open to working constructively with the State Government.
Let us hope that given both Labour and Liberal members are requesting this buy-back scheme, that they will both campaign in earnest to get their respective parties together to get this scheme up and running in the Hawkesbury.
