Rain over the past few days has given fire crews a much-needed reprieve across parts of NSW, particularly in the Parr State Conservation Area in Hawkesbury, where four bushfires are being held under control since the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) reported on Monday, 6 January 2025.
The four bushfires are the Budda Creek Fire, Womerah South Fire, Devils Hole Fire, and Rush Creek Colo Heights Fire. The Devils Hole Fire is still being contained by firefighters, but the rest have been contained.
The fires are burning in remote terrain, and there is no immediate threat to nearby communities.
The expected downpour from Tuesday until today has brought cooler conditions across the firegrounds. The RFS said that there had been minimal fire activity due to the wet weather, which allowed fire crews to make significant progress.
“Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) will be used to assess the impact the rain has had on the fire and to help identify containment options,” the RFS said today, 8 January.
“Further rainfall and possible thunderstorms are forecast in the coming days. When conditions allow helicopters using thermal imaging cameras will work to identify hot spots, which will be mopped up and blacked out by firefighters.”
