Four Bushfires Burning in Parr State Conservation Area, Hawkesbury

A number of bushfires are burning in the Hawkesbury region, the NSW Rural Fire Service reported today, 6 January 2025.

The isolated fires located in the Parr State Conservation Area are the Budda Creek Fire, Womerah South Fire, Devils Hole Fire, and Rush Creek Colo Heights Fire.

“A number of fires are burning east of Putty Road in the Parr State Conservation Area and the Yengo National Park. These fires are largely burning in remote terrain, and there is no immediate threat to communities,” the RFS said.

According to the RFS, the smoke of the fires is settling in the Colo Heights area. A southerly change is expected this evening, which may bring cooler conditions and rain.

The RFS advises residents of Colo Heights and communities along the MacDonald River between Wisemans Ferry and Higher MacDonald to monitor conditions in case the situation changes.

As of 3:52 PM, the latest size of the fires are as follows:

Budda Creek Womerah Fire, 51 hectares – Not yet controlled

  • The fire is burning in the vicinity of the Womerah Range Trail, approximately 7km east of Putty Road.
  • There is no immediate threat to properties.

Womerah South Womerah Fire, 16 hectares – Not yet controlled

  • The fire is burning in between the Terraborra North Trail and Womerah Range Trail, approximately 9km east of Putty Road.
  • There is no immediate threat to properties.

Devils Hole Fire, 67 hectares – Not yet controlled

  • The fire is burning in remote terrain in the vicinity of Terraborra South Trail, approximately 8km east of Putty Road.
  • There is no immediate threat to properties.

Rush Creek Colo Heights Fire, 13 hectares – Not yet controlled

  • The fire is burning in the vicinity of the Rush Creek Trail, approximately 10km east of Putty Road.
  • There is no immediate threat to properties.

The RFS reminds residents near the fires to follow these guidelines:

  • Fire may impact on your property. Make your final preparations now.
  • Fill buckets, sinks and bath tubs with water ready to put out spot fires
  • Block downpipes and fill your gutters with water to help stop burning embers. Do not get on the roof.
  • Remove items which can burn from around your home, such as furniture and door mats.
  • If you have firefighting equipment, get it ready now.
  • Put on protective clothing made of natural fibres that cover all of your skin. Wear sturdy shoes. Have plenty of drinking water available.
  • If you are not prepared, your safest option is to leave early.

If you are threatened by fire

  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure such as a house to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • Bring pets indoors and restrain them, close all doors and windows and turn off air conditioners, keep water running if possible.
  • Shelter in a room on the other side of the building from the approaching fire, and one that has water and a clear exit out of the house.
  • Monitor both inside and outside for small fires and burning embers and turn sprinklers on if you have them.
  • Be careful outdoors after the fire has passed as trees can be unstable and fall.
  • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
