Bully Off for Hockey in The Hills

Hockey is set to get a huge fillip when the Central Playing Fields at The Gables at Box Hill opens mid-2023.

The flood-lit hockey field and complex will be a huge boon for the many hockey aficionados and sports lovers in The Hills.

Subject to final approval, the complex will have multi-use courts, a fenced dog off-leash area, a futsal warm-up space, junior adventure playground and teen zone with skate area, table tennis and an outdoor gym. What more could you ask to spend an entertaining or relaxing day?

The Hills Shire Council resolved at a recent ordinary meeting to enter into a funding agreement with the Department of Planning and Environment and a delivery agreement with Stockland Developments for the establishment of the fields.

Mayor Dr Peter Gangemi said the council will call for expressions of interest for a hockey partner, in a move to encourage the sport at premier level in The Hills.

“This proposal now has everything a new community needs, “ Mayor Gangemi said. “I’d like to congratulate residents on their high level of engagement with more than 320 comments received.”

Students at the nearby Santa Sophia College will have shared use of the future playing fields.

Construction is planned to begin in late 2022, with completion scheduled for mid-2023, weather permitting.
