Weave for Wellbeing!

Award-winning local artist Kirrily Jordan is teaching basketry workshops as a way to build connection and care in the community. “Sitting together and weaving is such a joy,” she said.

“It creates new connections and a deeper sense of wellbeing. On top of that, it’s a great way to learn a new skill, and I’m always amazed by the beautiful baskets people make!”

For Kirrily, weaving has become a big part of her life after her own personal crisis. “After facing cancer in my mid-30s I knew I needed to slow down and find a richer sense of meaning. Weaving has helped me find that – when I weave I connect with nature, meet new people and have such fun with creativity and self-expression.”

Kirrily has been learning and teaching weaving nationally and is keen to bring her workshops home to the Hills. “I’ve had the amazing opportunity to learn with incredible weavers, and was honoured to be Highly Commended in last year’s Hornsby Art Prize. I’m excited to keep sharing weaving with as many people as I can,” she said.

If you’d like to weave with Kirrily locally, she will be offering a one-day workshop in Galston on 21 January. Tickets are available from Humanitix.
