The Bromeliad Society of Australia Inc
Bromeliad Society Meeting: Mark Massey on Australian Natives – July 12th at Castle Hill Showground.
The Bromeliad Society of Australia Inc will hold their next meeting at the Federation Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground on Saturday, 12th July with plant sales to the public from 10am and the meeting commencing at 12noon.
Our guest speaker is MARK MASSEY, Mother Earth Nurseries. His presentation will focus on Australian natives and his addiction to preserving as many native plants that may be at risk of extinction.
His passion for plants has seen his collection outgrow his home. Together with his obsession with collecting and propagating even more plants led to his first nursery.
Mark’s discussion will include a whole range of Australian natives from the rare plants to the most popular type we are familiar with and possibly grow in our own gardens.
Eucalyptus, Waratah, Banksia, Melaleuca, Paper Barks, Tea Trees, Myrtles, Spider Flowers, Flannel Flowers, and Golden Wattles. He will also touch on soil preparation, the importance of good drainage, aspects for planting, watering and fertilisation specific to Australian Natives.
Mark will bring along many examples of Australian natives and there will be an opportunity to purchase plants following his presentation.
There will also be our regular meeting activities such as competitions, Raffle, Show & Tell, and a more recent activity called just “Show” for people who would just like to share a plant with others without it being critically judged or discussed.
There is also an opportunity to meet like minded people in a friendly and inviting environment. Ian Hook, mobile 0408 202 269, email:[email protected] website: www.bromeliad.org.au
