Wisemans Ferry to Shine on Screen in New Australian Feature Film
Fireworks brings jobs, spotlight and international story to the Hawkesbury region.
Wisemans Ferry is set to become the atmospheric backdrop for a powerful new Australian feature film, Fireworks, currently in development and preparing to shoot in the area later this year.
The majority of the film will be shot on location in and around Wisemans Ferry, bringing national attention to the Hawkesbury region. With its striking landscapes and peaceful charm, the town is the perfect setting for this emotionally charged story.
Fireworks is an intimate drama that takes place over the course of a single day, as two old friends confront past trauma, moral dilemmas and the long shadows of their former lives. It’s a deeply human story that explores friendship, justice, and the possibility of healing.
The production is led by a seasoned and diverse creative team, including Western Sydney- based producer Yolandi Franken (Streets of Colour, Carmen & Bolude), Iranian-Australian director Ali Vaziri, whose personal journey as a former political refugee inspires the film’s emotional core, and writer Nick Bleszynski, a regional NSW-based journalist and screenwriter known for his work in both scripted and factual storytelling.
“We’re thrilled to be filming in Wisemans Ferry,” says Franken. “It’s not only a beautiful and cinematic location, but a place that brings real character and authenticity to the story. We’re committed to working with local suppliers and making sure the production benefits the community.”
The production is expected to inject funding into the local economy through accommodation, catering, location hire, crew wages and support services. It will also shine a spotlight on the Hawkesbury area as a world-class filming destination.
This is a unique opportunity for Wisemans Ferry to be featured on screen. The producers are inviting local businesses, residents and organisations to get involved or support the project through services or investment, sponsorship, and 100% tax-deductible donations through the Australian Cultural Fund.
Fireworks is more than a film — it’s a chance for Wisemans Ferry to be part of something meaningful, cinematic and proudly Australian.
