Arcadian Quilting News

Autumn has well and truly arrived this year with a very soggy start to what at times can be a colourful and soft time of year.

On a positive note, spending time indoors; catching up on some of those activities which we keep ‘putting off’ can be rewarding … which has led me to browsing through past AQ news articles where I discovered a story and a picture of this quilt (photo below) which was displayed at an AQ Exhibition held in 2008.

This ‘scene’ is in fabric and has been reproduced from a painting and would have involved a great deal of careful planning. 1’’ blocks of coloured fabrics machine stitched together were used to create what can be seen in this picture. What an achievement.

I understand a lucky grandson delighted in sleeping under this quilt as a child when he visited his Grandma …. some years ago now! Isn’t this a perfect way to celebrate Autumn? I can imagine this quilt gracing a bed perhaps or a cosy chair during these grey days?

Meanwhile busy hands at our group meetings are creating quilts for the Assistance Dogs Australia Charity. These quilts are given to children and young adults who through injury, mental and/or emotional disabilities are given an Assistance dog as their support and ‘lifeline’ out into the wider community. A quilt also adds to their feeling of security.

Andrea Blackford, our much valued contact with this very worthy Charity will be visiting us later this month and to our delight Bella, their Ambassador Dog will also put in an appearance!

We meet on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of every month, 9.30am at the Community Health Centre, The Glade, Galston. For further information about AQ please call Carole on 9894 7749.
