More Affordable Energy for Hawkesbury Homes
I know households in the Hawkesbury are feeling the pressure from higher energy prices. While we can’t control the many global factors contributing to this rise that many households are feeling, we’re taking action to help ease the pressure, without adding to inflation.
From the billing period that started on July 1, every household will receive $300 off their power bills.
On top of this, we’re providing small businesses with an energy rebate of $325 – which is good for local businesses and local consumers.
As well as helping people pay the power bill, the way we’ve provided the rebate actually puts downward pressure on inflation.
Tackling the immediate cost of living pressures is our top priority, at the same time we’re looking ahead to make sure Australians have long term access to reliable and affordable energy.
The federal government is working with state governments, energy providers and communities to manage the exit of coal from the grid, while ensuring that we seize the economic opportunities of renewables.
Under the Albanese Labor Government, we’ve already seen a 25 per cent increase in renewable energy in our grid. Fifty-five new renewable energy projects have been approved since we came to office, with these projects powering over 3 million homes. They are an essential part of our plan to deliver cheaper power bills and cleaner energy for all Australians.
Last year Australia had 330,000 rooftop solar installations, which is helping to lower home energy costs. And it won’t be long before the first community batteries in the Hawkesbury start appearing in Hobartville, to help people who have rooftop solar but no battery.
The world is undergoing its biggest economic transformation since the industrial revolution – the transformation from old to new fuels. While the Opposition exist in a halfbaked and uncosted nuclear energy thoughtbubble, we’re focused on creating a reliable energy system, one that can secure jobs and investment for communities that need it, and one that can reliably power our nation now and into the future.
