Stronger Together 2022 A free conference for parents and carers of children with neuro-diversity will be held at Castle Hill RSL on August 20th.

Organised by the Fit Kidz Foundation, the one-day conference aims to break down the isolation that many parents of children with specialised needs feel.

Fit Kidz Service Director Ellen Witzlsperger said: “Part of our mission is to build a community of parents and carers who can support each other through their journey of having a neuro-diverse child in their family.

“A lot of the time they feel isolated, they don’t have people to connect with that understand their journey and it can impact on their own mental health.”

She said while her organisation runs support groups they wanted to run a conference with greater community access with exhibitors from support organisations and speakers that would inspire and an event that would connect people.

“We don’t want finance to be a barrier so we are seeking 20 table sponsors for $500 each which would enable 200 people to attend the conference at no charge,” she said.

Speakers include local Jo Abi talking about preparing life for her neuro divergent sons, Richard and Randa Habelrih from Autism Mates with their talk: “I’m just like everyone else” and Sandy Golder founder of the Kindship group on cultivating support networks.

The afternoon will consist of panel discussions. Local mum Katherine Pym whose daughter 11-year-old Eva attends St Gabriel’s School at Castle Hill said she was looking forward to the conference.

“The journey of having a neurodiverse child can be isolating at times, so the thought of having the opportunity to be able to meet and connect with other parents in our local community who are on the same journey as I am, is really exciting.”
