Lakeview Private Hospital Opens New Cancer Centre
A new Cancer Care & Infusion Centre has been officially opened by Lakeview Private Hospital on its third floor.
The unit was created so that patients can receive all their treatment in the one location, close to home.
Currently there are 40 chemotherapy patients on treatment. Lakeview treats breast and head and neck cancers. As well as chemotherapy, hormone and immunotherapy it also provides blood transfusions and infusions to treat bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and blood and iron infusions.
The new centre facilitates collaborative care to create a sense of familiarity and trust for patients. The Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Team includes a range of oncologists, oncology nurses and specialist surgeons, plus pharmacological services.
In addition, the hospital provides cancer and post surgery rehabilitation services through inpatient and day programs, facilitated by an experienced allied health team including physios, occupational therapists, a dietician, social worker and more.
Breast cancer Surgeon Professor Elisabeth Eder said: “When the hospital started 10 years ago we wanted this comprehensive service. It’s important for women to see they have the whole package and that they will have support all the way through.”
“This has been a vision at Lakeview to have everything under one roof to work together under the motto: Patients First.” Associate Professor James French said being able to get treatment all in one place was “the final piece of the puzzle.” He said it is every breast surgeon’s dream to be involved in a private and comprehensive breast cancer service. “This has been a huge collaborative effort and our patients are really going to benefit from this.”

A breast cancer patient, Jodie, in a letter to NUM Kate Win said: ““My dream team. Kate, you lead such a beautiful team of ladies …. you’ve made this journey for me so smooth and easy and full of love and care, laughs when it was needed and a real genuine connection with me that I have treasured in my time with you. Thankful to be at the end of my treatment regime but will miss your beautiful smiles and warm welcome.”
