Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2025: Yarn at The Farm
Hills Shire residents are invited to take part in this year’s NAIDOC Week celebration, Yarn at The Farm, a free community event celebrating First Nations culture through storytelling, art, music, sport and food.
The event will be held on Thursday, 10 July 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm at Bella Vista Farm.
The day will open with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, followed by cultural performances including didgeridoo music, traditional dances, storytelling and shows by the Jannawi Dance Clan and Cheeky Little Emus.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, encouraged the community to get involved during the school holidays.
“This event is a great opportunity to have a yarn, listen to and learn from Indigenous voices,” Mayor Byrne said. “It’s a celebration of the resilience and spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with something for everyone.”
Visitors can enjoy free hands-on workshops including boomerang painting and jewellery making, as well as sports activities run by AFL NSW, Western Sydney Wanderers and the Parramatta Eels.
Market stalls will feature goods from Indigenous artists and small business owners, offering jewellery, clothing, homeware and gifts. Food will include First Nations-inspired cuisine from Wilka Thalta, along with a sausage sizzle, dessert truck, coffee van and ice cream.
The event is presented in partnership with Muru Mittigar, a local First Nations enterprise.
“This day reflects unity, cultural pride and community collaboration,” said Muru Mittigar Executive Officer Wayne Cornish. “It is a chance to deepen our understanding of First Nations culture and achievements.”
Yarn at The Farm is a free event, and everyone is welcome to attend.
