Officers from The Hills Highway Patrol arrest and charge a 31-year-old male from Kellyville with drug and multiple stealing offences.
About 5.15pm on Saturday the 21st of January 2023, officers were patrolling Commercial Road at Rouse Hill and sighted a white Toyota Hilux carrying temporary fencing. Officers were aware of recent thefts of temporary fencing and stopped the vehicle.
Checks on the vehicle’s registration confirmed that the number plates attached to the Hilux were stolen on the 4th of January 2023 from a Castle Hill address which were attached to another vehicle. Officers questioned the driver about the stolen number plates, but he alleged that the vehicle was borrowed and could not provide any further information to Police. With regards to the fencing, the driver again could not provide information of ownership. The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result and the roadside drug test returned positive to methylamphetamine.
Officers arrested the driver and conducted a search locating rolls of copper, drug paraphernalia and a white crystal-like substance which was seized for analysis. The driver was conveyed to Castle Hill Police Station where the secondary drug test returned positive to methylamphetamine.
Officers continued the investigation of the stolen number plates while the driver remained in Police custody. CCTV footage was obtained from the Castle Hill address which clearly showed the same driver removing the stolen number plates and to no surprise wearing the identical clothing and shoes. The driver was interviewed and continually provided ambiguous information to Police.
The driver was charged and refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court the following day. Conditional bail was given the driver and the matter will be heard later in February 2023.
Officers from the Hills Highway Patrol are continuing with their investigation where further charges will be presented to the male driver.
