Two New Bridges on Upper Macdonald
Hawkesbury City Council has completed two major bridge projects at Upper Macdonald Road, Higher Macdonald.
The two timber bridges over the Macdonald River were in very poor condition and had reached the end of their service life. Works commenced in January this year to replace the bridges with reinforced concrete structures. The new bridges were completed in October 2017. The construction of the two bridges cost $1.63 million combined, which was funded by Council using a loan from the NSW Government’s Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme. The bridge which is just over 14km from St Albans is almost 10.5 metres long and 4.5 metres wide, with a replacement cost of $734,243.
The other bridge, which is just over 20km from St Albans, is almost 14.5 metres long and close to five metres wide, with a replacement cost of $886,334.
The new bridges will benefit our local St Albans residents, the wider Hawkesbury community and the many visitors who love touring this beautiful region.
The NSW Government’s Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme provides NSW councils with a four per cent interest subsidy over 10 years on loans to promote the completion of various infrastructure projects.
