Yabba Dabba Cycle Do! Ride safely into Bike Week with this free event

Jump on your bike and celebrate NSW Bike Week in the Hawkesbury (17-25 September). A free cyclingevent with lots of activities will be held at Ham Common, near the Visitor Information Centre at Clarendon, on Sunday, 18 September 2016.

NSW Bike Week is an annual celebration of cycling, and encourages everyone in the community to get on a bike in a safe way.

Enjoy the increasing network of shared paths in the beautiful season of Spring. The event is great for the whole family, but all ages are welcome with a range of activities to ensure a fun-filled day for all. And better yet, it’s all free.

From 10:30am – 1:30pm, activities include a stegosaurus sausage sizzle served by ‘cavemen’, a childrens’ prize wheel, and for the adults, a ‘Best Cycle Rides Around the Hawkesbury’ handy, pocket-sized guide will be given to each group or family on the day. It contains twelve rides, concise maps, detailed routes, road and safety recommendations and the latest cycling rules. The booklet contains lots of useful information about the great rides around our beautiful region.

Extra prizes will be given to those who dress up in a caveman costume or animal prints!

There will be cycling lessons for all ages from AustCycle instructors. Kids’ lessons start at 10:30am and group lessons along the George Capper Cycleway will be from 11-11:30am. Or, drop in between noon-1pm for individual advice for your bicycle maintenance.

NSW Bike Week focuses on being safe on your bike and reminds you to:

– Always wear an approved bicycle helmet properly fitted and fastened
– Always obey road rules including traffic lights, stop signs and give way signs
– Ride predictably so that other road users don’t have to react suddenly to your movements
– Give hand signals when changing lanes or turning left or right
– Make yourself visible by wearing bright, light or reflective clothing
– Plan your route using quieter streets, bicycle paths or shared paths
– Always be in control of your bike. It is an offence to ride with both hands off the handlebars, feet off the pedals or to carry anything that prevents you from having control.

Yabba Dabba Cycle Do! coincides with the Sydney Antique Machinery Club’s Clarendon Classic Rally, and the Richmond Jubilee (including the Lachlan Valley Railway Steam Train) all happening on the same weekend.
