A new-look Hills United team have started the 2025 League One Football Women’s competition in a roaring style, scoring 13 goals in their opening three matches while topping both the league and club championship tables.

The Hills women are one of the strongest teams in the competition, and some of their new signings, Jess Wootton, Gemma Woolley, Elin Rosenberg Cemazar and goalkeeper Nicola Simmons, have already made their presence felt. Incidentally, Jess and Gemma helped Gladesville Ravens edge out Hills United 1-0 in the thrilling 2022 grand final.

The newcomers are backed by club stalwarts in providing the Hills with one of the most potent attacks and tight defences in the competition.

The Hills are perched on top of the ladder with nine points from three wins, with St George, Central Coast Mariners, and Marconi Stallions filling the next three slots with seven points each.

The Hills lead the Club Championship with 42 points from six matches, followed by Marconi Stallions, St George and Central Coast Mariners on 32 points apiece.

While these are early days, the scoring potential and strong defence – they have only conceded one goal – augurs well for the Hills this year.

The Hills side began their season with a 2-1 win over South Coast Flame, with Wootton scoring both goals. Next up, they thumped Inter Lions FC 6-0 where Rosenberg Cemazar scored their first season’s hat-trick with strikes in the 13th, 45th and 61 minutes.

Wootton and regular scorer Bianca Galayini (two) netted the other goals for the runaway winners, who held a commanding 4-0 lead at the breather.

Wootton is likely to be a thorn in the side of defenders throughout the season, showing her skills in the 5-0 demolition of Blacktown City, with a hat-trick at home last weekend.

Wootton scored in the 45th, 82nd and 92nd minutes, starting with a penalty. Aisling Davidson (78th minute) and club regular Ellen Barios (88th minute) scored the other goals for the Hills.

Blacktown City played the last part of the match with 10 players, following the red card shown to Rhea D’Mello. The Hills United next face 11th-placed Camden Tigers on Sunday, March 23, at 5pm.

Grassroots Coaching Festival
The Grassroots Coaching Festival, organised by Hills Football, will be held on Saturday, March 22 at the Bella Vista Public School ground. It is a good opportunity for current or aspiring coaches to observe a variety of training sessions. Organisers said that the sessions will be conducted by qualified coaches from Hills Football, Hills United Football Club, Football NSW, and more.

Coaches in attendance will be able to pick and choose which sessions to observe so they’re most appropriate to their interests. Time: 9.30-11am.
