National Police Remembrance Day

On Sunday, 29th September, police officers across Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and the Solomon Islands gathered to honour their comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. National Police Remembrance Day reminds us that behind every uniform is a person who has sworn to protect their community, often at great personal risk.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and honour the sacrifices made by police officers, both here in the Castle Hill electorate and across our nation. These men and women place their lives on the line daily, dedicating themselves to keeping our communities safe. Their bravery deserves our deepest respect and gratitude – not just today, but every day.

National Police Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our support for our police and thank them for their bravery and service every single day. On National Police Remembrance Day, we pay our respects to those police officers who have lost their lives to protect us all.

This day is also a moment to reflect on and pay tribute to officers who have lost their lives, whether in the line of duty or though illness, injury or other circumstances. To the families, friends, and colleagues left behind, we acknowledge your pain and stand with you. For those with a heavy heart on Police Remembrance Day, carrying the grief of losing someone close, know that you are not alone – we honour and stand with you.

As a former police officer, I know all too well the weight of loss that comes with this profession. Behind each name on the Wall of Remembrance is a family, a group of colleagues, and a community left grieving the loss of someone who was brave enough to step into danger so that others didn’t have to. We owe these officers more than just our gratitude; we owe them our commitment to remember their sacrifices.

Our police officers spend their lives working to keep us safe, often running towards danger when the instinct would be to run the other way. To those who have served, those who continue to serve, and those we have lost, we honour your selfless dedication to the people of NSW and Australia.

As we remember those we’ve lost, let’s also commit to supporting the police officers who continue to serve us with unwavering dedication. Whether through a word of thanks, attending a remembrance service, or simply acknowledging the sacrifices made, we can show our appreciation for those who work to keep us safe. To the officers of Castle Hill and beyond, thank you for your service and your sacrifice. We honour you today and always.
