HILLS WOMEN’S DAY LUNCH

There was colour and music and a lot of sound advice at the annual Hills International Women’s Day event at Dural.

The main speaker was Anabelle Daniel from Women’s Community Shelters who spoke about the great need for more services to help women.

Hills Mayor Michelle Byrne said it was important to support and encourage women to achieve their best.

Young speaker Ashleigh Armstrong urged women to be the role models for equality.

“Both my brothers were taught how to the mow the lawn, I never was.”

She also stressed the need for teenagers to be taught to be adults… “teach us how to do our taxes, how to do the washing … sew on a button.”

“Tell young people if they need support, you are there to help.”

The event was organised by members of Zonta Club of Sydney Hills, Soroptimist International of the Hills, The Hills Shire Baha’i Community and the Community Migrant Resource Centre.

The Zonta Club presented a cheque to Carol Harding for The Sanctuary _ The Hills Women’s Shelter and SI of the Hills presented a collection of Brave Bags made by girls in Cambodia who had been rescued from child slavery.
