HILLS LOCAL TO PERFORM ON HOME TURF IN – WWI concert tribute

Hills Shire local Sarah Ampil is set to star in the upcoming concert, Keep the Home Fires Burning- A WWI Concert, at the brand new Pioneer Theatre in Castle Hill.

The classically trained songstress will join her Operantics co-stars in the wartime classic in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day.

“Our line-up of songs and ensembles is poignant, nostalgic and uplifting,” Sarah said.

“This program is suitable for all ages and would be ideal for families and community groups who would like to relive some of the stunning music inspired by the Great War and beyond.

“Our performers are all classically trained and on the outset of exciting careers. This is also a fantastic opportunity to see some of Australia’s emerging operatic talent in concert – and for a fraction of the cost of a seat at the opera,” she added.

The concert will feature classic songs which have resonated through generations, including We’ll Gather Lilacs, Keep the Home Fires Burning and Pack Up Your Troubles, as well as some lesser known gems, some classical pieces from the era and some cheeky surprises too.

“We’re also excited to perform some ensemble renditions of familiar tunes, with music arranged by one of our own singers,” Sarah said.

“And singing along is absolutely encouraged!”

Sarah has been working as a freelance classical singer for about 10 years and made her debut with the Operantics in 2017.

To add to her extensive resume, she has also completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at The University of NSW, a Masters of Music Studies (Performance) and a Graduate Diploma in Opera Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Before that, she had been working on her craft during singings lessons and with a private teacher in The Hills.

Now, her work varies from performing roles in operas to recitals and solo concert work with choirs and orchestras.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to make a career from creating and sharing art,” Sarah said.

“I’m also grateful to be a part of initiatives such as Operantics that challenge the misconceptions that opera and classical music are irrelevant, boring or too expensive,” she added.

Sarah is now gearing up for the 2019 Operantics season.
