Bulls Players Enjoy Lisa Fiola Cup Joy
Several players from the Hills Bulls were a part of the Parramatta Eels team which lifted their first Lisa Fiola Cup Under 17 girls trophy.
The Eels outclassed Central Coast Roosters 26-10 in the recent grand final at Leichhardt Oval. Isabella Bell, Hine Rikiti, Temieke Withers, Georgia Wansey, Tegan Nicholas, Taylor Meagher, Kaveinga O’Callaghan-Ahio and Rylee Cash were the outstanding Bulls players in the tournament.
Temieke, Georgia and Isabella were among the try scorers in the final, while Alysha Bell was the team trainer.
The Lisa Fiaola Cup is a representative competition and attracts some of the best young female talent in rugby league. Auckland-born Fiola, who played rugby union and league for Australia, presented the cup and medals.
The win was particularly satisfying because the Roosters had inflicted a 24-14 defeat to the Eels in the first week of the finals. The Eels edged out defending premiers Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 22-20 in the preliminary final to set the stage for an exciting grand final.
Leading 18-0 at half-time in the grand final, the Eels had to withstand a fightback from the Roosters in the second half before they could celebrate at the end of the long whistle.
“It was a team effort today and that’s what it takes to win grand finals,” elated Eels coach Ryan Walker said. “I’m just so proud of the girls. This is six months in the making and they deserve it.”
BULLS EDGE OUT BROTHERS
The Bulls edged out the Brothers 12-6 to claim their first win in the Ron Massey Cup at Crestwood Oval on Sunday, with all tries coming in the first half.
Tyrell Neiufi put the Bulls ahead with a seventh-minute try in this eighth-round clash. The Brothers replied in the 22nd minute through Zachery Ryan, with Donovan Boney converting to make it 6-4.
The Bulls wrested back the lead in the 33rd minute when Fred Pupu touched down and Tali Teotu’u converted for a 10-6 scoreline. A penalty conversion in the 55th minute by Toetu’u stretched the lead to 12-6,
Meanwhile, the Bulls romped to a 22-8 victory over the Brothers in their Sydney Shield game played the same day.
