Australia Day on the Hawkesbury

A free family fun, food and fireworks event is coming to the Hawkesbury for Australia Day 2018. ‘Australia Day on the Hawkesbury’ will be held at Governor Phillip Park, Windsor on Friday, 26 January 2018.

The day will start with a free BBQ from 8am, provided by the Rotary Club of Richmond and the Rotary Club of Kurrajong North Richmond. Hawkesbury City Council’s annual Citizenship ceremony will take place from 8:45am. Each year there are many community members seeking Citizenship in the Hawkesbury. This ceremony is for family and friends of the citizens to attend. For more information about this ceremony, call

The annual Australia Day Awards ceremony will commence at 10:30am. There are many locals in our community that have made wonderful achievements and these awards are an opportunity to recognise these individuals and groups. Some of the award categories include; Young Citizen of the Year, Local Hero Award, Volunteer of the Year, Community Organisation of the Year.

The RAAF will then have a flyover at 12:15pm.

The afternoon event starts at 4pm, the Traveling Food Fest will bring a fantastic variety of food trucks – some of these include Aldos, Bells Churios, El Taco Loco, Gelate Brioche, Crosdales BBQ, Hillbilly Cider, Casey’s Brewery and many more. The kids will be able to enjoy jumping castles, a giant water slide, face painting and many other fun activities whilst the parents can sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display on the river.

Strictly no BYO alcohol will be allowed and bags will be checked upon entry.

Australia Day on the Hawkesbury is sponsored by Hawkesbury City Council, Windsor RSL, Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury, The Richmond Club, The Hawkesbury Race Club, Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce, The RAAF Base Richmond, The Hawkesbury Gazette, and The Traveling Food Fest.

Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett said “Australia Day is a wonderful day for the Hawkesbury’s local community to gather together and celebrate being Australian whilst enjoying one of the Hawkesbury’s most picturesque parks. Council is very excited to be able to offer a free event for the community”.

“I am pleased to announce that Hawkesbury City Council is working with local business’ to make this possible,” she added.

One of the sponsors, The Hawkesbury Race Club, will also hold the Hawkesbury Community Race Day on Wednesday, 24 January, the first of 2018. Entry is free for Hawkesbury residents and Defence Force personnel.
