ARMISTICE REMEMBERED

More than 2500 people of all ages attended the Centenary of Armistice Day concert at Bella Vista Farm Park on November 11 to mark 100 years since the end of World War 1.

The moving event started at 5pm with the combined pipes and drums of the Castle Hill RSL Pipe Band the Parramatta RSL RSL Caledonian Pipe Band, The Hills District Pipe Band and members of the Combined Centenary of ANZAC Pipes and Drums played When the Battle’s Over, joining 2000 pipers from around the world.

Members of the Royal NSW Lacers Band added some swing to the evening between the telling of a series of citations for Victoria Cross winners from World War I read by the 16 Hills Youth Ambassadors chosen from Hills high schools over the past four years.

The highlight of the night was the performance of the Castle Hill RSL Youth Wind Orchestra culminating in Tchaikovsky’s famous “1812 Overture” accompanied by four M2A2 Howitzers with the 9thRegiment Royal Australian Artillery.

There was a standing ovation at the end of the evening.
