Top architects, builders, interior designers and landscapers acknowledged at the 2016 Hills Building and Design Awards

A luxurious family home in Kellyville has been awarded the top prize at the 2016 Hills Building and Design Awards, alongside ground-breaking multi-residential projects, innovative rooms and spectacular landscapes.

Announced on Friday, October 21 at a special awards ceremony at Curzon Hall, Marsfield, the 2016 Hills Building and Design Awards recognised Australia’s most innovative housing and design projects, from established architects, interior designers and landscapers, as well as emerging talents.

The overall winner was awarded to Millbrook Homes for their design of a Kellyville home which included expansive flowing spaces, innovative contemporary design, luxury inclusions coupled with a swimming pool and spacious entertaining areas.

Millbrook Homes was also presented the Residential Project/Exhibition Home ($500,000 and above), Residential Building – Outdoor Living/ Entertaining and the Residential Building – Kitchens awards on the night.

The Hills Shire Mayor, Councillor Yvonne Keane, said the jury praised Millbrook Homes for their ability to create a gorgeous, yet family-friendly home.

“As a winner, this home sets the benchmark for building projects within The Hills Shire,” Mayor Keane said.

“Congratulations to Millbrook Homes for their ingenious design and I know you will continue to deliver exquisite homes for residents of The Hills for many years to come.”

There were 81 finalists celebrated on the night – a significant increase since the awards were last held in 2015.

Two new award categories were also added to the line-up including a residential bathroom category and the introduction of the People’s Choice Award.

Mayor Keane said the introduction of new categories reflected changes in industry trends and the growth of the awards since their inception in 1993.

“These architects, builders, designers and landscapers are smart, they are creative, they have designed and built spectacular buildings and special spaces in our community, and they are leading the way across the globe,” Mayor Keane said.

“This has become especially important with new communities popping up in North Kellyville and Box Hill, while our more established suburbs are going through a period of renewal through rezoning and knock-down and rebuild projects.

“The need for these beautiful buildings and innovative designs has never been greater, and now we have a greater diversity of housing stock in the form of houses, duplexes, units and town houses.”

The awards, supported by The Hills Shire Council, celebrate the finest architecture and design projects by Australia’s best building practitioners.

On the night, landscape extraordinaire Jamie Durie, who owned his first home in The Hills, acted as the master of ceremonies.

The 2016 Hills Building and Design Awards were sponsored by Homeworld, Baulkham Hills Landscape Supplies, Frys Energywise, Home Design, Home Option Gallery, Esplanade Norwest, Buildhome Magazine and Reece Bathroom Life.
