The Hills Shire Council to dive in on Waves Pool study

The Hills Shire Council will soon commence investigations into a feasibility report and concept design for a redevelopment at Waves Pool, Baulkham Hills.

The 51-year-old facility is being considered for a significant upgrade and Council has invested $500,000 into developing a detailed design for the much-loved community facility to meet existing and future demand.

The design will include investigations on short and long-term requirements for the facility, as well as consider the potential for other recreational and educational uses of the site.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said she looked forward to hearing from the community.

“Many residents have learnt how to swim at Waves, they’ve enjoyed the pool in the warmer months and participated in swimming carnivals,” Mayor Byrne said.

“This facility has served as a meeting place, play space and educational/training hub for Hills residents for more than 50 years.

“It’s clear that people feel strongly about its future and they have demonstrated how important the facility is to the community.

“During investigations, Council will work closely with residents, pool users, schools and other interest groups to understand the needs and wants of the community and how to achieve the best possible outcome for everyone.

“Residents will soon be invited into the process and will have the chance to have their say on the concept design.

“Council is committed to providing quality recreational services to its residents and continuing The Hills’ reputation as a great place to live, grow, play and raise a family.”

Preliminary consultation with visitors to Waves was undertaken in September 2017.

These sought to gather preliminary feedback on user experience of the venue as well as suggestions for improvements and aspirations for the future of Waves.

More consultation is planned – both on site and online – later in the year.
