Online London resources for family history

London is much more than the capital of England, it is also a global city with a history stretching back to the Roman Empire. In the early 1900s more people lived in the County of London, than in Scotland. Today, however, much of the area is now located in the county of Middlesex.

Trying to navigate the myriad of family history resources for London is not straightforward and it is important to know some of the city’s history to help put the records into context, and to know where they might be located.

Jenny Joyce will be the guest speaker at the next Hawkesbury Family History Group meeting on Wednesday, 11 October and she will explain online London resources. A lot of family history records can now be found online including births, deaths and marriage registers, census records, newspapers, wills, criminal records and much more. Jenny will show us where to find this information to learn more about families who lived in this great city.

Jenny Joyce has been researching her own family history for many years, and is also a professional researcher, lecturer, teacher and writer. She is currently the President of Ku-ring- gai Historical Society.

Anyone interested is encouraged to attend this free event. The meeting starts at 10am and bookings are not required. Refreshments are available after the meeting. The Library is located at 300 George Street, Windsor.
