New and improved playground facilities open for The Hills

The much anticipated upgrades to Barker Street Reserve, Beaumont Hills, is finally complete and officially open to the public.

The extensive $30,000 works at the neighbourhood park provide exciting new recreational features for families of The Hills Shire and surrounding suburbs and continues Council’s commitment to providing high quality facilities.

The new recreational space includes swings and a play unit with a slide, while the original equipment has been retained in the state-of-the-art design.

Final elements of the upgrade comprised of mulch being added in and around the play equipment.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane said the upgrade was a continuation of Council’s infrastructure investment, as well as creating vibrant open space across the region.

“Barker Street Reserve is perfectly situated to benefit many residents including local families, and those wanting to get fit and healthy close to home,” Mayor Keane said.

“We are working hard to ensure residents and families have access to high quality facilities regardless of where they live or their ability.

“Council is committed to providing quality public spaces as well as leisure and recreation opportunities to meet the changing needs of a growing community.”

Mayor Keane said with increasing numbers of families moving into The Sydney Hills each day, Council was always looking towards the next playground project.

“We’ve already started upgrades at Ashley Avenue Reserve in West Pennant Hills,” Mayor Keane said.

“The works are set to be completed in the next few weeks and I’m looking forward to taking my two children, Asher and Saskia, down there for an afternoon of fun.”

The upgrade will see the full potential of Barker Street Reserve realised, transforming it into a recreational space to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities to be active and healthy.
