The Mayor’s Library Fine Amnesty a major success

The Hills community has shown how generous they can be with their phenomenal response to the Mayor’s Library Fine Amnesty.

Over 1600 items were donated including back to school supplies, baby products, personal care items, outdoor play toys and non-perishable food items.

These donations will be shared amongst The Sanctuary, Foster Care Angels, Lisa Harnum Foundation and Anglicare – local charities who do so much for The Hills community.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane, said she was overwhelmed by the big-hearted response shown by library and community members.

“There are many families for which even the smallest donations are the helping hand they need to make the holiday season that little bit more special,” Mayor Keane said.

The Mayor’s Library Fine Amnesty included the return of overdue library books in exchange for a donation and in return staff waived fees.

“The Library Amnesty is also the perfect way to return some old overdue items to the library so that others can enjoy them,” Mayor Keane said.

“This year almost 600 books, some as long as 13 years overdue, found their way back onto our library shelves.

“I want to extend a massive thank you to The Hills residents who supported this initiative and helped to make a spectacular difference in our community,” Mayor Keane added.
