Local Council election – Hawkesbury

NSW Local Council elections will be held on Saturday, 10 September 2016, 8am to 6pm, across the State.

The Hawkesbury City Council election will be conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission.

Information about the election can be found on the NSW Electoral Commission website www.votensw.info or by telephone 1300 135 736.

Voting is compulsory so it is time to check your enrolment details are up to date.

Visit www.votensw.info to check your current enrolment details.

To make a claim to be included on the roll of non-resident owners of rateable land or the roll of occupiers and rate paying lessees, see Council’s website www.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au for the appropriate forms.

Completed forms must be returned to Council prior to 6pm on Monday, 1 August 2016.

If you are considering standing for Councillor, you need to know your obligations. Visit https://www.votensw.info on what you need to do to become a candidate. All candidates must be enrolled in the local electorate by Monday, 1 August 2016, 6pm in order to be eligible.

On Tuesday, 28 June 2016, Council resolved to hold a referendum at the Local Council election on Saturday, 10 September 2016 regarding the Hawkesbury Local Government Area being divided into wards.

Council is currently an undivided area where 12 Councillors represent all electors.

The referendum question will be: ‘Currently, Hawkesbury City Council is an undivided council with no wards.

Do you agree to the Hawkesbury local government area being divided into three wards, each ward electing four Councillors? ’.
