LIFELINE HARBOUR TO HAWKESBURY – safeTALK

Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP was joined by Federal, State and local colleagues this morning to learn practical suicide prevention skills through Lifeline’s ground-breaking safeTALK training session.

Suicide is one of the great challenges that Australia faces. It affects us all. By starting with Members of Parliament and Mayors, I hope to encourage other leaders in our community to also undertake the safeTALK training and help to reduce the alarming rate of suicide in our society,” Mr Leeser said. More than 100 people have taken their own lives in recent years in the Berowra electorate.

Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury CEO Wendy Carver said the ground-breaking safeTALK training session has seen more than 10 Parliamentarians and local Mayors come together to learn practical suicide prevention skills. This initiative, led by Julian Leeser MP, is the first time that representatives from all levels of government have been in the same room to undertake this lifesaving training. In doing so, it shows that our community leaders understand the profound impact of suicide on friends, families and whole communities, and sets a wonderful example of the role we can all play in stopping suicide.”

Mr Leeser was joined by Trent Zimmerman MP, Federal Member for North Sydney, the Hon Matt Kean MP, NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation and Member for Hornsby, Damien Tudehope MP, NSW Member for Epping, Alister Henskens SC MP, NSW Member for Ku-ring-gai, Cr Steve Russell, Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council, Cr Yvonne Keane, Mayor of The Hills Shire Council and Cr Jennifer Anderson, Mayor of Ku-ringgai Council.
