Let’s Make Greenway Great

By Julian Leeser MP

GREENWAY PARK is the site of sporting excellence – featuring six successful clubs who punch well above their weight. It’s a great testament to the strength of these clubs and its volunteers that so many sporting stars began their careers at Greenway Park – be it Olympic hurdler Michelle Jenneke, Sydney Swans’ Kieren Jack or Cricketer Denise Annetts.

More than 2,000 families and 8,000 players are connected to the seven clubs who use Greenway: Penno Stags Rugby League, Pennant Hills Senior AFL, Westbrook Junior AFL, Greenway Giants Baseball, West Pennant Hills/Cherrybrook Cricket, Cherrybrook Netball Club and Cherrybrook Athletics. They call it their sporting home, but in its current sad state, it’s not the most fitting home for our community clubs.

That’s why the clubs and I are pushing for the funding of a Sports House to make Greenway great. We want to improve the change rooms to encourage female participation, provide more spectator shade and bolster disabled access. As the clubs themselves told me at a roundtable meeting – ‘sporting clubs are the modern heart of a healthy community’. I’m working to make our community the best it can be.

It’s been great to conduct community catch-ups over the past month, in Wiseman’s Ferry, Cherrybrook and West Pennant Hills. It’s always important to hear directly from you about the issues that matter most. Next month on Saturday, 7 April I’ll be at Annangrove shops from 9.00am – 11.00am and I look forward to seeing you there.
