Hawkesbury Sports Awards guest speaker Paralympian Kathryn Ross

The Hawkesbury Sports Awards, to be held at Windsor RSL on 13 May, will honour not only amazing sports men and women who achieve great things on the field but also those who make sure our local clubs run efficiently. The guest speaker for the evening will be Paralympian and gold medallist, Kathryn Ross.

Kathryn is an extremely talented Australian Paralympian. Originally from Warrnambool, Victoria, Kathryn now lives in the ACT and is based at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Kathryn took up rowing in 2006 and quickly rose to success.

Kathryn partnered with the winner of the male singles rowing championship, John Maclean, and went on to win silver medals with him at the 2007 Munich World Championships and the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, where they missed out on gold by 0.08 of a second.

Kathryn then partnered with Grant Bailey, winning a bronze medal at the 2010 New Zealand World Rowing Championships.

In 2011, she partnered with John Maclean again and won a bronze medal at that year’s World Rowing Championships in Slovenia and another silver in the 2011 International Adaptive Regatta in Italy.

Kathryn then partnered with Gavin Bellis and won gold at the 2013 World Championships in South Korea, at the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam, and again in 2015 in France. Kathryn and Gavin are currently training hard for the 2016 Paralympics at Rio and are strong contenders for a gold medal.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Kim Ford is very much looking forward to meeting Kathryn at the upcoming presentation night. ‘It is an honour to be working with Kathryn at this year’s Hawkesbury Sports Awards. Kathryn is a true inspiration to us all’, Mayor Ford stated.

The 2016 Hawkesbury Sport Awards is a ticketed event. For further information on the Sports Awards please call Council’s Events and Community Engagement Coordinator on (02) 4560 4404.
