The Galston VIEW Club which raises money to support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program will hold its monthly luncheon meeting on:

WHEN: Wednesday 24th May, 2017 at Dural Country Club at 11am.

DETAILS: The guest speaker will be Merinda Air — W.I.R.E.S. NSW Wildlife, Rescue and Education Service. Visitors are always welcome.

WHEN: Wednesday 28th June, 2017 at Dural Country Club at 11am. DETAILS: The guest speaker will be Gary Cook from The State Library of N.S.W. which has a history dating back to 1826 and is renowned for its historical and contemporary collections. Visitors are always welcome.

SANDRA LEIGH PRICE AT HAWKESBURY LIBRARY FOR THE SYDNEY WRITERS’ FESTIVAL

Sandra Leigh Price’s glittering and gritty (The River Sings) is set in 1825 in London and follows the life of Eglantine, daughter of the mysteriously prosperous Mr Amberline Stark. When the law catches up with him and Amberline is sent to the penal colony of Australia, Eglantine has to grow up and fend for herself. Join Sandra in a conversation about love knots and cut ties, old worlds and new beginnings, and the importance of a taking a chance.

We have a special mini-precinct set up at Parramatta Riverside Theatres for young adult fiction lovers called ‘ALL DAY YA’ on Saturday May 27.

We also have ‘FAMILY DAY’ on Sunday May 28 at Walsh Bay featuring talks by kid’s books superstars Lauren Child and Andy Griffiths, as well as a range of FREE programming, for families and kids under 12.

FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT STRATEGY LAUNCHED

Infrastructure NSW launched Resilient Valley, Resilient Communities – the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley Flood Risk Management Strategy last Friday, 3 May 2017 at Governor Phillip Park, Windsor. The Flood Strategy is a comprehensive long term framework for the NSW Government, Councils, businesses and the community to work together to reduce and manage the flood risk in the Hawkesbury- Nepean Valley.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett has welcomed the opportunity to be involved in the preparation of the Flood Strategy.

SYDNEY WRITERS’ FESTIVAL @ HAWKESBURY LIBRARY

The Sydney Writers’ Festival is an annual literary festival which presents over 300 events, attracting audiences of over 100,000 throughout Sydney and participating suburbs. It brings together writers from various forms and backgrounds, including the best contemporary novelists, writers of cutting-edge nonfiction, plus a range of popular personalities and international guests.

For the first time, Hawkesbury Library Service will be participating in the Sydney Writers’ Festival, which will be held from Monday, 22 to Sunday, 28 May 2017. The Library is pleased to announce that Sandra Leigh Price will give an author talk at the Library on Wednesday, 24 May from 6pm to 7:30pm.
