Castle Hill Library Opens For HSC Students

Castle Hill Library will open its doors exclusively to HSC students on Sunday mornings from October 2 until October 23 between 9.30am to 1pm.

During the study sessions, students will have access to Wi-Fi, computers, photocopying and printing facilities and staff will be available to help with any student enquires.

Mayor of the Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane, said Council is eager to support HSC students during what can be a stressful time.

“The HSC study sessions at Castle Hill Library provides Year 12 students with a positive and well-resourced space in which they can undertake their studies without interruption,” Mayor Keane said.

“The HSC can be a taxing time for students. By running these HSC study sessions we hope to reduce or alleviate any added stress that students may feel when they lack resources, a space to learn or support to study effectively.”

The HSC study session is a free event, however students must book online prior to attending the library and bring their ticket and student ID on the day.

Student discounts are also available at the library cafe, Chapters.

Adding to the resources available for Year 12 students, the Hills Shire Libraries have subscribed to an online study companion, HSC Study Lab – Science.

The free online resource features video lessons, simulations, interactive activities to explain concepts and HSC-style practice questions for science based subjects.

All content is based on the NSW syllabus and is produced by experienced Year 11 and 12 teachers and exam markers.

Mayor Keane said the web-based resource, which can be freely accessed by students with their library card, aided students with their studies.

“The interactive and engaging material makes revision a fun process,” Mayor Keane said.

“Textbooks can be hard to understand for visual leaners and consequently hard to digest into a sound personal understanding of key concepts.

“HSC Study Lab – Science is based around three basic activities – watching a video, playing an interactive activity and applying what you’ve learnt during a quiz.”
