It’s on again!! SPEEDCARS… MUSTANGS… AND MANY MORE…

• Last year we had 60 cars and this year promises to be even bigger. All under cover at THE CENTRE, DURAL

• Come and show your kids the speed-cars that used to race on the speedway tracks in Sydney in the 1960’s

• Or maybe you are into MUSTANGS……. check these beasts out.

One of our members, Ken Buckland, gives this insight into the history of the famous Mustang….

“In 1959, Lee Iacocca who was an up and coming marketing person in the FORD MOTOR COY approached Henry Ford II to build a 2- door car as he could foresee the baby boomers of the WWII era would be potential buyers of this type of vehicle. Henry was not at all impressed with this but after much pushing by Lee over a number of years at last Henry gave in and asked Lee for three different design ideas. The one chosen was the one we know so well, and Ford set up tooling for the coupe and convertible, whilst the fastback was put on hold as Henry still had big doubts about the likely success of any these cars.

On 17th April 1964 the first mustangs were displayed at the world fair in New York and on that first day the FORD MOTOR COY sold 14,000 mustangs!!

From 1964 to 1966 FORD sold 1.4 million mustangs.

After 1970 the mustangs lost some appeal as they were not as outstanding as the originals back in the 60’s. Forward to 2005 and a new design mustang was developed and built using many of the original design features, and this look has stayed for 10 years to then be replaced in 2016.

Up to 2016, FORD had not produced right hand drive models, but FORD thought that by marketing a right hand drive it would make a huge new world -wide market accessible to the mustang.

FORD AUSTRALIA calculated they would sell about 1,000 mustangs a year …their calculations were slightly off……..from 2016 to 2018 FORD have sold 17,500 mustangs in Australia!!”

Must be plenty of us baby boomers around!

So please come, bring the family, sausage sizzle and refreshment on sale. All proceeds help the shed in our objectives to foster community and well-being amongst men and young men of our local community.
